In reply to: Need for hierarchical groups
I don’t have any immediate plans to do so. It’s a ton of work, and the current state of Messages and Groups is solid enough that it would be of marginal benefit to sink a ton of work into a proof of concept, especially given all the other core BP issues I’ve got on my plate. If someone else were interested in writing such a proof of concept, I’d be delighted to look at it.
In reply to: BP Better Directories abandoned?@sooskriszta The plugin works fine. It’s not abandoned – I need to keep it updated for a client – but I don’t have plans to do the necessary testing for regular release in the near future. The “not ready to be used message” is mainly intended as a “use at your own risk” warning.
In reply to: Adding a new buddy press pageThere’s no way to do this in the BP UI at the moment, without writing code. If you’re interested in how these tabs work, you may want to consult the BuddyPress Skeleton Component: https://github.com/boonebgorges/buddypress-skeleton-component

In reply to: BuddyCamp Vancouver 2012 – October 14-15Bump! Hope to see some of you there!
It sounds like this is a filter order problem. In BP 1.6, some sanitization routines were added for security purposes, and it looks like there’s a conflict with the CPF plugin.
In the …bp-functions.php file, try changing
`add_filter( ‘bp_get_the_profile_field_value’, ‘cpfb_add_social_networking_links’, 1 );`
to
`add_filter( ‘bp_get_the_profile_field_value’, ‘cpfb_add_social_networking_links’, 100 );`
and see if that helps.
Weird. If you were using bp.css, then it should keep working like it did before.
I’d suggest doing some investigation using Firebug to see if you can identify exactly which styles are being left out. Then search through your codebase to see if those styles actually exist.
It looks like some styles are missing. How are you styling the BP content? Are you pulling in bp-default’s stylesheet? Check to make sure that your version isn’t somehow mangled; it should be 2423 lines long https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.6.1/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/css/default.css
Cool, glad to hear it. Thanks for looking into it, djduckworth!
That’s extremely weird. Please report back when you hear back from the dev – if it’s something that BP did, I want to make sure that we fix it.
In reply to: [Resolved] Wrapping Secondary avatar with linkI’m looking over the code, and there’s not a very easy way to make it happen. We have hooks in bp_get_activity_secondary_avatar(), but we’re not passing along enough information to make it possible for filters to make the avatars linkable.
Could I ask you to open an enhancement ticket at https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ explaining what you’re trying to do? I can make sure that the filters are improved to make what you’re trying to do possible.
In the meantime, it’s possible to do what you want, though not elegant. Here’s a hint:
`
function bbg_turn_secondary_avatars_to_links( $avatar ) {
global $activities_template;// Here you’ll copy the logic in bp_get_activity_secondary_avatar() to switch between types
switch ( $activities_template->activity->item_id ) {
// Here’s an example of what to do with groups
case ‘groups’ :
$group_id = $activities_template->activity->item_id;
$group = groups_get_group( $group_id );
$url = bp_get_group_permalink( $group );
break;// You’ll have to do similar sorts of tricks for different content types
}// Then, wrap the avatar in a URL
if ( !empty( $url ) ) {
$avatar = ‘‘ . $avatar . ‘‘;
}return $avatar;
}
add_filter( ‘bp_get_activity_secondary_avatar’, ‘bbg_turn_secondary_avatars_to_links’ );
`This may not work as is (it’s off the top of my head) but it should give you a push in the right direction. Good luck!
WPMU.org recently had a nice writeup on something similar: http://wpmu.org/how-to-build-a-facebook-style-members-only-wordpress-buddypress-site/
Very odd. Were you upgrading from BP 1.6, or an earlier version? Nothing changed between 1.6 and 1.6.1 that would cause this problem.
The error you see almost certainly means that there is a problem with your theme. It’s probably the case that the theme isn’t properly enqueuing the jQuery accordion extension. Verify that it’s turned on in your theme settings (if there is a toggle, of course). You might also search through the contents of your theme to see if you can find the place where the theme attempts to load the JS – it’s probably using the function wp_enqueue_script(). Possibly, it’s doing it incorrectly, in a way that broke with BP 1.6.x (though I’d have to see the code to know how it could break in this way due to 1.6).
In reply to: BP 1.6 upgrade and avatar functions@sarah_lena I don’t recognize the filename pattern …full-16×16… BuddyPress creates two different avatar files: bpfull and bpthumb, and does not create dimension-specific versions.
It’s possible that the Salutation theme is doing some of this on your behalf. Try switching to bp-default, then *uploading a new avatar* for your test user, and see if the same thing happens. If not, then it’s Salutation doing its own magic.
You may also have a plugin that is doing some avatar voodoo, though I’m not aware of a plugin that does this.
In reply to: Activity StreamA few years ago, I wrote a plugin that should do what you’re asking: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-import-blog-activity/ I’m not sure whether it still works as advertised, so you may want to test in a development environment first.
In reply to: unable to change text on registration pageHere’s some more information on how to create child themes for BuddyPress, as @mercime suggests: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/
In reply to: 1.6 Update Help – Pages@joshualedetnet (and others having the issue) – Could you help us to debug by putting the following into your bp-custom.php or theme’s functions.php file?
`add_filter( ‘bp_do_redirect_canonical’, ‘__return_false’ );`
And then let us know whether the redirect problem stops. (If it does, you’re welcome to leave that line in there until there’s a fix – it simply disables a new canonical URL feature.)
In reply to: Activity displaying posts from plugin developer?It’s being caused by a plugin called bp-external-activity. As the docs note, you have to open the PHP file to replace the default feed with your own: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-external-activity/installation/
Have you tried doing some logging/dumping to see where things are going awry? What happens when you dump the following:
`var_dump( $post_categories );
var_dump( $new_events_slug );
var_dump( $cat );
`after each one of them is defined? That’ll tell you in a hurry where things are getting messed up.
At a glance, I’m guessing that the failure is here:
`$cat = get_category( $c );
if(!$cat==$new_events_slug){`because I don’t think that `get_category()` returns a slug ( I think it returns a category object). But var_dump() or print_r() will tell you where you’re going wrong.
Can you clarify what you’re trying to do, and the ways in which what you’ve written are falling short? I take it that the “two categories” is *not* what you want?
In reply to: Member Profile – Settings Tab is Not FunctioningCan you clarify which files you mean when you say “the settings folder from the core BP files”? Do you mean the following:
`buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/settings/`
If so, these files *should* be getting copied over at the same time that the entire `members` directory is copied, during the BP Template Pack setup process. It could be that there is a bug in that plugin causing the problem.
@hnla It sounds like you might have found a bug.
@djpaul The change you’re thinking of is here: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/5552
In reply to: [Resolved] Installing BP shuts down the siteAs Hugo points out, this is almost certainly a memory issue. Check out http://www.nerdgrind.com/increase-wordpress-and-php-memory-limit/ for details on increasing your memory limit. If this is not the problem, then, as Hugo says, we’d need more details from server logs to diagnose properly.
Is the user a member of the group where you are trying to create the topic?
What is the privacy level of the group in question?
What versions of WP/BP? What theme? What other plugins? Are you able to reproduce this error with all plugins but BP disabled, using the bp-default theme?
If you want to use it in a theme, try putting it in a function wrapper and then calling that function in your template. In functions.php:
`function bbg_forum_pag() {
global $forum_template;$per_page = 5;
$total_posts = $forum_template->topic->topic_posts;$pag_links = paginate_links( array(
‘base’ => add_query_arg( array( ‘topic_page’ => ‘%#%’, ‘num’ => (int) $per_page ), bp_get_the_topic_permalink() ),
‘format’ => ”,
‘total’ => ceil( (int) $total_posts / (int) $per_page ),
‘mid_size’ => 1
) );
echo $pag_links;
}`Then in your template:
“
